Dr. Kiyoshi Hoshi 1943 - 2006 (Sapporo, Japan)
Biography
Dr. Kiyoshi Hoshi, Director of River Disaster Prevention Research Center, Sapporo, Japan. He taught at University of Hokkaido and Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. After moving to a practice oriented governmental research institute, he took a strong lead to apply the advanced models and theory to practice and demonstrated their use. By those contributions he was awarded the Distinguished Contribution Award of Japan Society of Hydrology and Water Resources in July 2002.
Hydrological Achievements
Kiyoshi Hoshi was a brilliant hydrologist mainly contributed to stochastic hydrology and surface hydrology. His contribution on disaggregation method in data generation and unification of Kinematic wave model and storage function model were some examples of many works of his. He was one of the earliest Japanese hydrologists who worked in an international domain publishing many papers in Water Resources Research, Journal of Hydrology etc. He was one of the most important contributors to IUGG/IAHS 2003 held in Sapporo.
