Professor Zhao Renjun, a native of Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province in China, he was born on April 9, 1924 and died on March 17, 1993. He graduated from the Department of Water Resources, Central University In 1945. After graduating, he stayed at Central University to teach and worked for hydraulics and laboratory. From August 1949 to August 1952, he was a lecturer in the Department of Water Resources of Nanjing University. In 1948, he participated in the underground revolutionary work under the leadership of the Communist Party at the Central University. He joined the Communist Party of China in January 1951. In September 1952, he began to serve as a lecturer, professor at the East China Technical University of Water Resources.
He served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the East China Technical University of Water Resources and deputy section chief of the teaching affairs Department. From January 1961 to March 1984, he served as deputy head of the Department of Hydrology. From March 1984 to April 1986, he served as the head of the Department of Water Resources and Hydrology at Hohai University. He has served as a member of the University Degrees Committee, a member of the Professional Committee, a member of the University affairs Committee, a member of the Editorial Board of Hehai University, the Director of the Hydrology Department, the Deputy Director of the Hydrology Committee of the China Water Conservancy Society, a member of the Disciplinary Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Member of the review team. In 1982, he was approved as a doctoral tutor by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council of China.
Professor Zhao Renjun's expertise is in hydraulics and hydrology. After the founding of New China, he engaged in hydrological scientific research and has made outstanding contributions in this field for decades. He developed the successful "watershed hydrological simulation" method, and provided new theories and means for hydrological forecasting, which has played an important role in production practice. His achievements have been highly valued by international academics and UNESCO, his method were carried out in some countries. His monograph "Watershed Hydrological Simulation - Xin'anjiang Model and Northern Shaanxi Model" won the first prize of the State Education Commission's Science and Technology Progress Award in 1987, and was included in the "Major Scientific and Technological Achievements in the People's Republic of China " in 1990.
Professor Zhao Renjun was working at the cutting edge of hydrology teaching and reseach. He has lectured and compiled courses and textbooks on hydrological forecasting, basin hydrological models, and has tutored more than 20 postgraduates and more than 10 doctoral students. In order to study the laws of hydrology and establish hydrological and physical models, he personally led young teachers and graduate students to go to the field and master first-hand information. In order to study the hydrological law of the Yellow River Basin, he went to northern Shaanxi, and in the Loess Plateau, he lived in the peasant's home and conducted on-the-spot observation and research. His research practice has set a successful example for the younger generation. For the sake of science, he worked hard to develop a hydrological model of the northern Shaanxi basin. He has worked for more than 40 years in the academics. He has published more than 40 papers(or books). He is the leader of the subject construction of water resources and hydrology at Hohai University. He has been tirelessly leading everyone beside him to study and explore the development of hydrology. His academic status and achievements have been unanimously recognized by the hydrological circles at home and abroad. He has been invited to lectures and academic seminars in the United States, India and other countries, and has been appointed as the UNESCO International Hydrology Training Course in China.
